Home-Cooked Meal

While I was visiting Z in New York about a month ago, I decided to cook for him because he had spent all day at home studying for an exam.  I love cooking, so I thought I would share the recipe of what I made with you.  It’s a really simple sea bass and asparagus dish, and I guarantee that anyone can make this dish with no mess-ups!

Cost: $$$ (fresh sea bass runs on the pricey side)

Difficulty: Easy

Time: Short

Ingredients you will need:

Sea Bass

1. 1 Chilean sea bass round (~2 lbs.)

2. half bulb garlic

3. 2.5 tablespoons of oyster sauce or hoisin sauce

1. 1 bunch asparagus (~24 stalks)

2.  2 tablespoons butter

3. juice from a lemon quarter

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.  Take your half bulb of garlic and mince it until fine.  Spread the garlic over the top of the sea bass round.  After that, drizzle the oyster sauce (or hoisin) over the fish.  Place your fish into the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes until the fish is cooked through.

While you are waiting for the fish, you can start on the asparagus.  Wash all of the asparagus and remove the stems.  Fill a shallow saucepan with 2 inches of water.  On medium-high heat, wait for the water to boil, then put in your asparagus.  Cook it for 2-3 minutes, until bright green and crisp.  Be careful though, overcooked asparagus gets rubbery.  Drain the water from the asparagus and mix in the butter and lemon juice.

This is a really simple dinner to make and is sure to impress.  Bon apetit!
