Sunday Dinner

One of the things I love doing most in life is cooking.  I cook dinner for myself most every night and I love sharing the things I create with Z.  It’s hard for me to cook dinner for him though, because he usually works late and has an allowance to order food every night.  One night, I made Z come over for dinner because I was leaving for holiday and needed to get rid of all my food.  Here is what I made for him.  Boyfriends take notice!  Girlfriends are very impressed when guys use kitchen apparatus to make meals, even if they are really simple!

Crispy Penne Pasta in Vodka Sauce with Roasted Brussel Sprouts

Difficulty: Some skill

Time: Medium , 1-1.5 hours prep time

Materials you will need:

Pasta:

1. Half bag of penne pasta

2. 2 pre-cooked sausages (I like chicken apple or spicy andouille)

3. 5 cloves of garlic

4. Lots of olive oil

5. Jar of pre-made vodka sauce

6. Pepper to taste

Fill a pot of water and put it over medium-high heat until water is at a rolling boil.  Drop in your penne pasta and season with salt to taste.

While you are waiting for your pasta to cook, place a separate skillet over high heat.  GENEROUSLY coat the bottom of the pan with olive oil.  Dice your garlic up finely and slice your sausages.  Do not put these into the skillet yet.

Once your pasta is ready, drain all the water out.  Make sure it is completely dry or you will have a problem when you drop your pasta into the skillet.  Once your pasta is dry, drop it into the skillet and make sure it is evenly distributed on the pan.  Make sure the pasta is spread evenly because you want the pasta to get crispy.  Allow the pasta to sit here for 3-4 minutes without touching or flipping it.  After it sits and crisps, flip the pasta the best you can so the other side has a chance to get crispy.

Allow this side to sit for another 3-4 minutes.  Once you flip the pasta, add in your garlic and sausage.  When you feel like your pasta is crispy enough, toss everything together in the pan so the garlic has a chance to flavor the pasta.  Finally, take your sauce and add as much as you like into your pasta.  Serve immediately so the pasta is crispy!

Brussel Sprouts

1. 2 cups of fresh prepared brussel sprouts, off the stalk

2. olive oil

3. salt and pepper

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Make a makeshift pouch out of foil with your brussel sprouts inside.  Drizzle oil generously and add salt and pepper to taste.  Close off pouch and stick it in the oven for 1 hour.  Voila! You have delicious brussel sprouts!

This is one of my go-to dishes and I’ve had a lot of success with this one because its delicious!  I know that anyone can make this dish!  Bon apetit!
